Every few years a Lollard Martyrs' Play is hosted in the parish church at Old Amersham in Buckinghamshire. This tells the story of the Amersham Tudor Lollards. The church is transformed into a 16th century scene with actors dressed in period costume, speaking 16th century English, reading the scriptures in English and going about their lives before being arrested and put on trial. It brings the whole story alive.
The next production of the Amersham Martyrs Community Play has been announced for March 2027, at St Mary’s Church, Amersham. (The actual dates are still to be confirmed but we will publish them when they become available.) For further information about the plays, follow the link below to the website of Amersham Museum.
