We are delighted to announce that Chas Raws has agreed to become the Society's first Ecumenical Coordinator. Chas Raws has been an enthusiastic member of the Society for many years, and he is ideally placed to lead an ecumenical approach to the Society's drive to make the work of William Tyndale more widely known. This is an important appointment for the Society, and information about this project will be published in future numbers of the Journal.
Charlotte Dewhurst is well known to members from her tremendous work as the Society's Secretary. We are, therefore, especially pleased to welcome Charlotte as a Trustee of the Society. Charlotte's practical imagination, enthusiasm and business experience are much valued by everyone in the Society.
The CD-ROM version of the Tyndale slide show is now available. The pictures can be viewed directly on the screen of a computer, or displayed using a projector connected to the computer. The text that accompanies the pictures can be printed as required. Please contact the secretary for details. We extend our grateful thanks to Rev. David Ireson who has provided the initiative, the time and the technical resources for this development.
For members who are connected to the Internet, William Tyndale is featured on The British Library's website, www.bl.uk. Information on Tyndale can be found by using the search facility at the site. Entries include the first page of St. John's Gospel from The British Library's copy of the Tyndale New Testament, and information about the BL's digitisation programme.
Work on a Tyndale Gazetteer is under way. The Society plans to produce a short guide to sites in the UK and elsewhere that have a connection to William Tyndale. A provisional list has been created (and successfully used by some intrepid travellers) but we would be pleased to receive more information from members. Please send details to the compilers David Green and Priscilla Frost.
The annual Tyndale Society Christmas Service will be held at St. Mary Abchurch in the City of London, at 12.30pm on Wednesday, 19th December 2001. We look forward to welcoming all members, and their friends, who would like to take this opportunity to come together at Christmas.
Tyndale's Testament / Het Testament van Tyndale is the name of an exhibition to be held at the prestigious Plantin-Moretus Museum of printing in Antwerp, Belgium, under the direction of Dr. Guido Latré. The exhibition will run from 2nd September to 1st December 2002, and the opportunity to attend the opening ceremony and a private view of the exhibition will be an important feature of the 2002 Tyndale Society Conference. More details on conference will appear elsewhere.
One of the more surprising recent 'Sightings of Tyndale' was in the unlikely wing of Harrods department store in London. Elizabeth Arden, the large American cosmetic house, has launched some skincare products called 'Let There Be Light'. As the name might suggest in this context, the products promise to deliver radiant skin. Would members like to suggest any other commercial applications for well-known passages of Tyndale's translations?
