Publication grant

August 2024

The Tyndale Society is proud to announce that new editions of Tyndale's non-translation prose are in preparation, with support from a National Endowment for the Humanities Scholarly Editions and Translations grant. The project has recently published volume 4: "The Exposition of the Fyrst Epistle of Seynt Jhon and An Exposicion vppon the v. vi. vii. Chapters of Mathew", edited by J. Christopher Warner (Catholic University of America Press, 2023).

It joins volume 3: "An Answere vnto Sir Thomas Mores Dialoge", edited by Anne M. O'Donnell and Jared Wicks (Catholic University of America Press, 2000). Additional volumes are in preparation.

Interested readers may learn more about the project and consult open-access versions of these texts at www.tyndaleworks.org

British Library Tyndle Facsimile, 2023

The British Library has produced a facsimile of its copy of the 1526 Tyndale New Testament.

This complete, carefully reproduced facsimile edition was created from one of only two complete copies of the 1526 edition of Tyndale's New Testament, which is held in the British Library. The facsimile presents the New Testament in full colour and to the exact, original specifications. The publication includes an introduction by the founder of the Tyndale Society, Professor David Daniel.

It costs £20 new and can be purchased online by the British Library shop, using the link below.

Lollard Play, Amersham, 2022

21st March 2022

Mary Clow and Neil Rees represented The Tyndale Society at the Lollard Martyrs' Play in the parish church at Old Amersham, Buckinghamshire. This told the story of the Amersham Tudor Lollards. The church was transformed into a 16th century scene with actors dressed in period costume, speaking 16th century English, reading the scriptures in English and going about their lives, being arrested and put on trial. It brought the whole story alive.

Ralph Werrell, 2020

3rd July 2020

The Revd Dr Ralph Werrell sadly passed away at Lichfield on 3rd July 2020, aged 91.  He was an expert on the theology of William Tyndale, emphasising the Lollard tradition which was behind his work. He wrote a number of books about him which were published by James Clarke & Co. and lectured on the subject round the world. He was a key member of the Tyndale Society who helped to organise conferences and will be sadly missed.
