"The Book That Changed the World"
St Peter’s Church, St Albans, are proud to present an extraordinary, one-hour dramatic performance called "The Book That Changed the World: William Tyndale and the Battle for the English Bible", written and presented by Prof. Tim Boatswain.
The event is part of the celebrations to mark the 500th anniversary of William Tyndale's New Testament published in Worms, which is twinned with St Albans. It takes place at 7 p.m. on 15th October 2026, at St Peter's Church, St Peter's Street, St Albans, Hertfordshire AL1 3HG. The presentation will be followed by refreshments.

The year 2026 is the anniversary of the publication of the first completed edition of William Tyndale’s New Testament, freshly translated from the Greek and one of the great milestones in the production of the Bible in English. The first complete Bible printed in England was the second edition of Miles Coverdale’s translation. (Click on the image on the left to enlarge the page from Matthew's Gospel.)
To mark the 500th anniversary and celebrate some of these linguistic triumphs, Christ Church College in Oxford is putting on an exhibition predominantly using the collections in Christ Church Library. A highlight of the exhibition is Brasenose College’s 13th century Founder's Bible which is generously lent by the Principal and Governing Body of Brasenose College.
Alongside this will feature a broad selection of items from Christ Church’s collections, including a 13th century French manuscript of the New Testament; English translations by Wycliffe, Coverdale and Tyndale; and printed editions in languages from all over the world. The exhibition will be in the Upper Library at Christ Church, St Aldate's, Oxford OX1 1DP.

To mark the 300th anniversary of St Martin's-in-the-Fields in London, the church is holding a series of talks and events. To also mark the 500th anniversary of Tyndale's New Testament they are hosting a talk by Dr David Crystal. He will explore the huge influence that Tyndale’s writing had on the English language and will investigates the oft-cited statistic that eighty percent of the King James Bible was actually produced by Tyndale.
This lecture will take place at St Martin's-in-the-Fields on Monday 12th October 2026 at 7 p.m. and tickets cost £10. For further details, use the link below to the church website.

To celebrate the 500th anniversary of William Tyndale’s 1526 New Testament, Wells Cathedral in Somerset is holding a one-day Tyndale Symposium called "Opening the Word: Tyndale, Translation and Transformation". The symposium will be held on Friday 9th October 2026 starting at 9 a.m.
It will include contributions from seven internationally respected scholars of Bible translation, textual criticism, Reformation history and theology. The symposium ends at 5 p.m. and will be followed with an invitation to Evensong at 5:15 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. with a Tyndale theme. Tickets cost £55 and can be booked online.
